In British Columbia, children begin kindergarten (the first level of public school education) in September of the year they turn five (5) years old. Before this age, your child can, if you wish, attend a preschool child care centre. The Fédération des parents francophones de C.-B. offers this service in several communities, for children from the age of 30 months until their start in kindergarten.

Once your child has started school, he or she can attend a Before and After School Child Care Centre. Offered before and after school hours, in the school itself, this service is intended for children aged 5 to 12, and is managed by an entity other than the school. The Fédération des parents francophones de C.-B. offers this service in several Conseil scolaire francophone schools.

When you submit a pre-registration form to one of the child care centres of the Fédération des parents francophones de C.-B., it means that your child is placed (or your children are placed) on our waiting list. Then, when a space becomes available, if your child is next (or if your children are next) on our waiting list, we will contact you to offer you a space.

The data displayed on the Child Care Map may not be up to date. In addition, the form to be filled out to be placed on our waiting list is an essential step in the process. The information you provide in this form is used to ensure that we offer you a space that meets your needs.

The only families eligible for the services offered by the child care centres of the Fédération des parents francophones de C.-B. are those in which one of the parents is a Francophone who is entitled to them, i.e., able to exercise his or her constitutional right (that is, the right to have his or her child educated in a French-language school of the Conseil scolaire francophone de la C.-B.). To learn more, contact us at garderies@fpfcb.bc.ca.

The child care centres of the Fédération des parents francophones de C.-B. give priority to families who need a full-time space (5 days a week). In addition, during the registration period, spaces will first be granted to families whose children were already registered in the previous year.

The child care centres of the Fédération des parents participate in all the subsidy programs offered by the province, which allow us to reduce the fees for families who attend our centres.

Some programs require families to submit an application themselves. For example, to receive the Affordable Child Care Benefit (ACCB), eligible families can apply directly to the provincial government, by filling out the form available on the My Family Services portal (you can check your eligibility for this allowance by visiting the Affordable Child Care Benefit program website).

The first month of participation for a child newly enrolled in a child care centre of the Fédération des parents francophones de C.-B. is considered a trial period. If, at the end of this period, the parent or staff concludes that this program is not suitable for the child’s needs, the parent can remove the child from the program without penalty.

You will need to provide at least 30 days’ notice, no later than the 1st day of the month in which you want to end the contract (e.g., if you give your notice on March 15, it will be taken into account on April 1st and the end of the contract will therefore be April 30). The notice must be sent by email directly to the Administrative Service of the child care centre (garderies@fpfcb.bc.ca). The notice is necessary so that we can fill the space that has been freed up, in order to serve as many families as possible and to ensure the continuity of our services.

Each child care centre follows a different calendar, based on the calendar schedule of the school to which it’s attached. Contact us for the schedule of your specific school: garderies@fpfcb.bc.ca.

Although we are aware that it’s extremely difficult to predict, at the time of the child’s enrolment, whether your child will be toilet-trained and relatively independent in the washroom before they begin to attend the child care centre, only children who will be toilet-trained at the beginning of the school year will be able to attend the child care centre, for logistical, health, and safety reasons.
