What is Le Phare C.-B.?
In an effort to address the lack of French-language child care spaces in British Columbia, the Fédération des parents francophones has set up Le Phare C.-B. This new entity within the Fédération, created at the request of its member associations and following consultations, is entirely dedicated to the development of Francophone child care centres in British Columbia.
As indicated in the 2018 study “Francophone Child Care Centres for Early Childhood in British Columbia – Issues, Findings and Recommendations“, a large number of Francophone parents are unable to find a French-language child care space for their child. This situation is an obstacle to the transmission of French to future generations, and a challenge to the long-term vitality of the Francophone community in BC.
The team at Le Phare C.-B. works in collaboration with various partners and develops expertise that will make it possible to mitigate the current shortage. It will advance the development of French-language child care centres across the province by supporting both the start-up of new child care centres and the expansion of centres already in operation. In this way, Le Phare C.-B. is set to become the Francophone benchmark in the field of child care in British Columbia.
